The Cost of Prescription Drug Samples

A 2008 study by Wake Forest University finds that individuals receiving free drug samples end up spending significantly more on drugs than those who do not. With few generic drugs being sampled, physicians only have the option of giving their patients the brand-name drugs they have in their closet. When the samples run out, patients are forced to either return for more samples or fill the expensive prescription they were written.
