Patient Eligibility and the Effect of Unemployment

As I talk with clinics across the country, I am continually confronted with unique eligibility requirements. Our own policy at the Dispensary of Hope is that patients earn less than 200% of the FPL and have no prescription drug coverage. I’ve found that most of our dispensing sites have at least these requirements and are often even more rigid with additional limitations related to age, residential status, and FPL percentage. But there is one criterion that is of particular interest due to the current economic condition–patients must be employed.
